Making lemonade out of one hell of a spring

We had tickets to fly to Sacramento and spend a week in Tahoe right at the start of summer break. Plans changed. We decided that with all of the new regulations in place flying with our family was not something that we wanted to take on at this time, only to show up some place and not be able to do anything.

At the last minute–with only two weeks notice–my brother got leave from his work and he and his wife arranged a road trip out to see us. During this time of crisis in our nation, we have been thankful to live on an acreage with space and lots to do. We welcomed our family with open arms and had a wonderful time doing nothing. Well, almost nothing…

We played lots of games: Lucky SOB, Pandemic (with Corona), puzzles, Jenga, croquet.

Fun quote:

Mom: Derek do you wanna play Jenga with us?

Derek: No, I’m not a big Jenga fan.

Mom: But this is Big Jenga.

Derek: Like I said, I’m not a Big Jenga fan.

The kids drove the Teryx all over the neighborhood. They slipped and slid.

We even took a family trip to Scheel’s where we had a near-normal shopping experience.

We stopped by to visit with Grandma Ruth through her bedroom window, only to have our visit cut short because, despite our 6-ft distance and the screen between us, we could not engage without masks. Glad we got to see her.

Andy and Nichole are interested in moving to Nebraska–soon, we hope– so we showed them the nearby neighborhoods of Eagle Lake and Eagle Village and went on a mostly uneventful bike ride on the MoPac Trail,

and enjoyed a nice walk through our neighborhood.
